Moreno rejects comments that he is neglecting his mayoral duties

Presidential aspirant and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno on Friday shrugged off comments that he is neglecting his duties and responsibilities as a local chief executive due to his ongoing “listening tours” for Eleksyon 2022.

In an interview with reporters in San Andres, Manila, Moreno said his critics are entitled to their opinions, especially on how he governs the city. He however said he is not neglecting his job considering that his Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna was there.

“Basta tayo, dito sa Maynila walang tulugan. Tsaka maswerte ako sa vice mayor. ‘Yung vice mayor ko battle-tested, si Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna (We don’t take breaks here in Manila. I am lucky with my vice mayor, Honey Lacuna, as she is battle-tested). She really knows the job of being the vice mayor,” he said.

Moreno added that should Lacuna win the mayoral race in the May 2022 elections, she would continue to build more infrastructures and give allowance to students, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the capital city, among others.

“I think she knows everything already. She knows what to do kasi (because) she was part of it, she is part of it. Lagi siyang kasama (she was always included), she knows it very well and most of these passed through the city council under her leadership,” he added.

Moreno also urged Lacuna to ensure that the public has enough food to eat and provide them with houses and jobs.

On transparency

Further, Moreno said he is willing to waive his rights under the Republic Act No. 1405 or the Bank Secrecy Law to open his bank accounts to the public to prove that he does not have any hidden wealth.

“I do not have any problem with it as long as ito ay hindi gagamitin sa panggigipit sa kapwa (it will not be used to harass others). Iyon ang dapat nating ingatan kasi karapatan rin naman ng mamamayan natin iyong kanilang privacy (We must be careful with it because the public also has the right to privacy),” he said.

The Bank Secrecy Law prohibits disclosure or inquiry into bank deposits as a general rule. Violation of this law may result in imprisonment of not more than five years or a fine of not more than P20,000, or both. — DVM, GMA News
