Nono Lin on questioned Lexus: Natagpuan ko po sa garahe namin

Rose Nono Lin, a stockholder of a company linked to Pharmally Pharmaceutical Corporation, revealed to senators that she only found one of the expensive vehicles registered to her name at her residential garage.

During the latter part of the Senate blue ribbon committee probe on Thursday, Senator Richard Gordon questioned the luxury cars owned by Lin, a shareholder of Pharmally Biological Inc.

He first asked about the P8.9-million Cadillac, which was registered on August 2, 2018.

Lin answered that the Cadillac was already sold but she could not reveal the selling price. She recalled that she was surprised to see vehicles parked at their garage.

“Sa katotohanan po kapag umuuwi po ako sa bahay minsan, nagugulat na po ako na may sasakyan. Nagugulat din po ako na wala na pong sasakyan,” she told Gordon.

(In truth, whenever I go home, I am surprised about the vehicles. I am also surprised that these vehicles were already gone.)

Gordon then asked about her P8.8-million Lexus.

“Natagpuan mo na lang ba sa garahe ‘yan? O ikaw ba yung bumili niyan? (Did you just find that in your garage or did you buy it?),” the senator quipped.

In response, Lin said, “Natagpuan ko po ‘yan sa garahe po namin dahil hindi po ako mahilig sa sasakyan. Okay na po sa akin basta po tumatakbo at may masakyan po ako papunta po sa opisina.”

(I just discovered that in our garage and I am not fond of cars. It is okay with me as long as the car is functional and I can use it to go to my office.)

She also said their vehicles were bought by her husband Lin Wei Xiong, a businessman linked to former presidential economic adviser Michael Yang.

In his presentation, Gordon also cited other vehicles owned by Lin including a Range Rover worth P11.9 million bought in January 2020 and a P4.8 million worth of Toyota Land Cruiser purchased on July 15, 2020.

Gordon further asked Lin which vehicle she is currently using.

Lin said she is currently using the Land Cruiser and that most of her cars were purchased before the pandemic hit early last year. Gordon refuted Lin’s claim, saying that the vehicles were bought in January and in July 2020.

“Not true, July 15, 2020, Jan. 17, 2020 may pandemic na (there’s already a pandemic then),” the senator said.

This is not the first time that the Senate raised concern over the luxury cars of Pharmally officials.

In a September 17 hearing, Gordon disclosed that the firm’s corporate secretary, Mohit Dargani, acquired a Porsche 911 Turbo S worth P8.5 million while Twinkle Dargani, Pharmally’s president, obtained a Lamborghini Urus worth P13 million.

The Senate panel is looking into the government’s procurement of COVID-19 supplies, including the multi-billion peso contracts bagged by Pharmally Pharmaceutical, at the onset of the pandemic last year. — VBL, GMA News
