Shipping, fishing operations resume as Lannie moves away

Shipping and fishing operations in areas affected by Tropical Depression Lannie have now resumed after the weather disturbance moved further away from the country’s landmass, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said Tuesday.

“Shipping and fishing operations in all ports nationwide have resumed as of 4 p.m. today, October 5,” the PCG said in a maritime advisory.

“All passengers, truck drivers, and cargo helpers, as well as vessels, motorbancas, and rolling cargoes that were stranded or taking shelter, are now allowed to travel by sea.”

Meanwhile, at least 15 passengers and five vessels were stranded in Palawan due to the tropical depression on Tuesday.

State weather bureau PAGASA reported that Lannie has accelerated while moving west northwest over the West Philippine Sea.

In its 5 p.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA said Lannie was last located 380 kilometers west of Coron, Palawan or 465 kilometers west of San Jose, Occidental Mindoro.

PAGASA said Lannie was likely to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Wednesday. — VBL, GMA News
