Only 14 people filed their certificates of candidacy for national posts in Eleksyon 2022 during the fifth day of filing administered by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) at the Harbor Garden Tent of the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila in Pasay City.
This is fewer compared to Monday’s COC filing when 31 people filed their COCs as they sought national posts in next year’s elections.
Of the 14, six will run for president, one for vice president and seven for senator.
Meanwhile, 26 partylist groups filed certificates of nomination and acceptance (CONA).
For national posts, lawyerLarry Gadon filed his COC to pursue again a Senate seat. He will be running the Kilusang Bagong Lipunan party of the Marcoses.
Local posts
Incumbent Barangay Health and Wellness Party-list congresswoman Angelica Natasha Co also filed the Certificate of Nomination and Certificate of Acceptance of Nomination of her partylist at their local office.
The Senior Citizens party-list also filed its CONA to seek a seat in Congress.
In a statement, the party-list said they will push for COVID-19 vaccination and treatment of seniors as among their main agenda.
Meanwhile, House Deputy Speaker Camille Villar also filed her COC to seek reelection as representative of the lone district of Las Piñas City.
ACT-CIS Representative Eric Yap also filed his COC in Comelec office of Benguet to run as representative of the lone congressional District of Benguet.
San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora as well as Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte also filed their COCs to seek another term as local chief executives in their localities.
No untoward incidents
In a speech after the closing of the fifth day of COC filing, Elaiza David-Sabile, Director of the Comelec Education and Information Department, said there were no untoward incidents at national and local levels for COC filing.
“We take this as a good sign and we would like to also take this opportunity to enjoin the aspirants to avoid last-day rush of filing,” she added.
The filing of COCs will only be until October 8, 2021.—LDF, GMA News
