The Commissions on Elections (Comelec) said on Tuesday that political aspirants who allow rallies or mass gatherings of their supporters during the filing of Certificates of Candidacy (COC) will be held accountable if such become “superspreader” events.
“The politicians who allow mass gatherings of their supporters, are the ones to blame if their pre-COC filing rallies turn out to be super spreaders,” Comelec spokesperson James Jmenez wrote in a Twitter post.
Meanwhile, Elaiza David-Sabile, Director of the Comelec Education and Information Department, said that no untoward incidents occurred during the fifth day of the COC filing on Tuesday.
“We take this as a good sign and we would like to also take this opportunity to enjoin the aspirants to avoid last-day rush of filing,” David-Sable said in a speech after the closing of the fifth day of COC filing.
The campaign period for the national posts’ candidates is set from February 8 to May 7, 2022.
Meanwhile, the campaign period for candidates in local elective posts is set from March 25 to May 7, 2022.
