The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Saturday said that it was preparing to deploy police personnel for the resumption of face-to-face classes in some colleges and universities.
PNP Chief Police General Dionardo Carlos said the PNP’s task was to provide security in the vicinity of these schools to ensure the safety of the students.
“The reopening of colleges and universities to physical classes means that we have to strategize our security plan, especially that students, teachers, and other non-teaching personnel are expected to go outdoors,” Carlos said in a statement.
“This is still happening at the time of pandemic so the PNP would like to remind the schools to strictly adhere to the health protocol,” he added.
The Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) earlier announced that it would “gradually” return to face-to-face classes starting January 2022.
Meanwhile, at least 177 schools, including 28 public schools from Metro Manila, will join the pilot run of in-person classes starting December 6, according to the Department of Education (DepEd).
The DepEd had initially approved limited face-to-face classes in 118 schools. — DVM, GMA News
