Isko recalls hardships: My mother did not have 3,000 pairs of shoes

Manila Mayor and presidential aspirant Isko Moreno was in Laguna on Friday and during a speech he recalled the hardships that he went through during his earlier years, saying that his mother did not have 3,000 pairs of shoes.

“Nanay ko walang 3,000 shoes, ang tatay ko walang ginto,” Moreno said in Saleema Refran’s “24 Oras” report on Friday. “Wala silang maikwekwento dahil wala silang kwenta. Because ang dapat niyong tanungin, ‘Where were you when we needed you most?”

(My mother did not have 3,000 pairs of shoes, and my father did not have a golden treasure. [My opponent] can’t talk about accomplishments because they are worthless. You should ask them, “Where were you when we needed you most?”)

“Hindi ito (This is not about what) my father did. What did you do? Where were you?” he added.

Asked if he was referring to the mother of former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, the Manila mayor did not answer directly.

The Guinness World Records had cited former First Lady Imelda Marcos for her extensive shoe collection. The official number of pairs remains unknown but previous reports pegged the number between 3,000 and 5,000 pairs.

GMA News Online had sought comment from ex-Senator Marcos and his representatives but they had yet to respond as of posting time.

Accompanying Isko during the visit was his running mate Willie Ong who vowed to promote a better health care system amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
