President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday directed local government units to craft an ordinance that would restrict minors aged below 12 years old from going to malls.
During his pre-recorded Talk to the People, the Chief Executive appealed to parents to restrict their children from going out, adding that unvaccinated kids have “no defense mechanism” against the virus.
He made the remark after receiving a report on the two-year-old boy who tested positive in an antigen test after visiting a mall.
“Alam ko kayong mga magulang, gustong gusto ninyo ipasyal ang anak ninyo after staying at home due to lockdown pero kung isipin ninyo, kung maliliit pa ang anak ninyo at ‘di pa bakunado, do not expose them to the virus,” Duterte said.
(I know you parents want your children to travel again after staying at home due to lockdown but if they are small and unvaccinated, do not expose them to the virus.)
He then asked LGUs to take action on restricting the travel of children who have yet to be vaccinated.
“On this note, I am calling all LGUs to consider passing ordinances for age restriction against minors who can be allowed in going to mall. We cannot allow those below 12 years old or those unvaccinated to be exposed to the risk of COVID-19 in public places,” said Duterte. — BM, GMA News
