PNP on heightened alert after death of rebel leader ‘Ka Oris’

All police units and offices are on heightened alert for possible retaliatory attacks from communist rebels after the top-ranking communist official George “Ka Oris” Madlos was killed in Bukidnon, the Philippine National Police said Sunday.

PNP chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar made the remark as he praised the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ internal security operations that led to the killing of Madlos in a clash with security forces.

He added that Madlos’ death will also serve as a warning to insurgents that the government will not stop its anti-insurgency efforts against remaining troops of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP).

“The PNP is one with our brothers in the Armed Forces of the Philippines in curbing the lawless activities and atrocities of the communist rebels that bring fear and terror to our communities. The entire PNP hails this successful operation as a big blow to the CPP-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF),” the PNP chief was quoted as saying in the statement.

With his heightened alert directive, Eleazar assured the public of their safety  amid possible retaliatory attacks.

“Tinitiyak ko sa publiko na hindi namin ito hahayaan. Patuloy ang pakikipagugnayan namin sa AFP upang siguruhin ang kaligtasan ng ating mga kababayan,” he said.

(We assure the public that we will not be complacent. We will constantly work with the AFP to ensure the public’s safety.)

Despite ideological differences and beliefs with the communist rebels, Eleazar said he sent his sympathies to the family of Madlos. —LBG, GMA News
