Philippines logs 2,605 new COVID-19 cases; active case at 33,526

The Department of Health on Sunday reported 2,605 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the Philippines’ total caseload to 2,803,213, as two laboratories failed to submit data on time.

According to the DOH, the new cases brought the country’s active case count to 33,526, of which 66% were mild, 5.7% are asymptomatic, 9% were severe, and 3.8% were in critical condition.

Total recoveries climbed to 2,725,257 after 3,901 more patients defeated the respiratory illness.

The death toll rose to 44,430 with 191 new fatalities.

The DOH noted that 13 duplicates were removed from the total case count, while 151 cases previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

Data from the DOH also showed that 42% of the country’s intensive care unit beds are utilized, while 25% of the mechanical ventilators are also in use.

In Metro Manila, 38% of the ICU beds were in use, while 24% of the ventilators were utilized. — DVM, GMA News
