Men pretending to be colonels extort thousands from junior officers

Five men pretending to be officials of the Armed Forces of the Philippines to extort money from junior officers were arrested by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Quezon City.

According to Marisol Abdurahman’s report on “24 Oras” on Monday, the five suspects have been pretending to be senior officers to extort money from junior officers and uniformed personnel of the AFP and the Philippine National Police by solicitation.

The CIDG said the suspects have been getting P3,000 to P50,000 per victim.

“Nagpapakilala sila na sila si colonel ganito, general ganito, ginaganoon nila sila by way of pananakot,” CIDG QC chief Police Lieutenant Colonel Michael Tuscano said.

(They introduce themselves as colonel such-and-such, general such-and-such. That’s what they do to intimidate their victims.)

The CIDG said the group has been operating since 2014.

“Four times na silang nagpapalit ng pangalan, ‘yong grupo nila. Medyo malaki tong grupong itong namo-monitor natin,” Tuscano.

(They’ve changed their names four times. The group we’ve been surveilling is pretty large.)

The group’s leader, Jocel de Guzman, denied the allegations against them. — DVM, GMA News
