Abas says filing of COCs, CONAs ‘successful’

Commission on Elections (Comelec) chairman Sheriff Abas deemed the filing of certificate of candidacy (COC) and certificate of nomination and acceptance (CONA) for the May 2022 national and local elections as successful.

“Sa kabuuan, masasabi natin na naging matagumpay ang pagsasagawa natin ng filing ng COC sa buong bansa. Kahit nasa gitna tayo ng pandemya, nasiguro natin ang maayos na pagsasagawa ng aktibidad na ito sa buong bansa,” Abas said in a virtual presser on Friday afternoon.

(Overall, we can say that the filing of COC is a success. Amid the pandemic, we are able to ensure the orderly conduct of this activity all over the country.)

The filing began last October 1 and ended October 8, Friday. Certain restrictions have been observed in this year’s filing of COCs and CONAs due to the ongoing threat of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abas thanked the entire Comelec and other government agencies such as the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police for helping in ensuring an orderly filing of COCs and CONAs.

Comelec spokesman Director James Jimenez said that as of 3 p.m., 83 aspirants have filed COCs for president, 23 for vice president, 130 for senator, and 241 for party-list.—AOL, GMA News
