Less than half of adult Filipinos or 45% believed that it was dangerous to publish or broadcast stories critical of the Duterte administration, a recent Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey found.

The survey, taken from June 23 to 26, 2021, also showed that 28% were undecided on the matter while 25% disagreed (13% somewhat disagree, 12% strongly disagree).

This meant there was a net agreement of 18+ which the pollster classified as “moderate.”

As for whether they can say anything they want, openly and without fear, even if it is against President Duterte, 45% said they agreed, 27% were undecided, while 27% disagreed.

The June 2021 survey also said net danger in publishing stories critical of Duterte was highest in Metro Manila with +28, then the Visayas with +22, Balance Luzon with +21, and Mindanao with +12.

On educational levels, net danger in publishing things critical of the administration was highest among college graduates with +37, followed by junior high with +17, elementary with +19, and non-elementary with +14.

The SWS used face-to-face interviews of 1,200 adults nationwide for its survey, with 300 each in Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao.

“The sampling error margins are ±3% for national percentages and ±6% for Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao,” the pollster also said. — DVM, GMA News
