Philippines gets 866,970 more Pfizer-BioNTech doses

The Philippines received on Wednesday night an additional 866,970 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine.

According to the National Task Force against COVID-19, this batch is half of a shipment procured by the government through the Asian Development Bank, with the other half arriving on Thursday.

At the arrival of the vaccines at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3, government adviser Dr. Ted Herbosa said the Department of Health is expected to decide on booster shots before November 15.

“Antayin ang pronouncement ng Department of Health. I think, bago mag November 15 mag-announce sa booster,” he told reporters, adding that health workers and the immunocompromised will receive the booster shots.

Also, Herbosa said over 30 million Filipinos have already completed their COVID-19 vaccine doses, adding that Philippines reach the full inoculation of 50% of its target population “in a few days.”

“Itong last 7 days nag-vaccinate tayo ng 4.4 million. So kapag nakaabot yung 1 million a day so makaka-7 million a week. So 30.1 million na ang fully vaccinated at 39% na pala so ang lapit na natin sa ating target,” said Herbosa.
