Departing Filipino tourists must secure travel, health insurance — BI

Outbound Filipino tourists are required to have travel and health insurance for COVID-19 that will cover the duration of their stay abroad, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said Friday.

“Outbound tourism is allowed for Filipinos, subject to compliance with protocols set by the IATF (Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases),” Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said in a statement.

According to Morente, the IATF requirement for outbound tourists to present a roundtrip ticket and insurance documents remains in place.

They are also required to sign and submit a declaration acknowledging the risk of their travel at check-in counters.

Morente also denied that only certain brands of travel insurance are accepted.

“There are posts online stating that immigration has been requiring specific brands of travel insurance. Such is not the case,” Morente said.

“Any brand of travel and health insurance, as long as it covers COVID-19 may be used by departing Filipino tourists. Unscrupulous individuals have been using the name of the BI to sell insurance, hence the need to issue this clarification,” he added. — VBL, GMA News
