US military train Philippine Coast Guard personnel to strengthen maritime rescue ops

Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) personnel from northeastern Luzon underwent a tactical combat casualty care training conducted by members of the US Civilian Military Support Element-Philippines (CMSE PHL) as part of efforts to strengthen maritime rescue operations.

In a statement of the US Embassy in Manila on Tuesday that the training, which was conducted last Oct. 4 up to Oct. 6, was the first time the US military has been able to train directly the Philippine Coast Guard North Eastern Luzon District (PCGNELZ) personnel.

About 20 PCG personnel took the course that consisted of Basic Life Saving and Tactical Combat Casualty Care academic and practical sections designed to enhance the ability and skills in responding to both maritime security and rescue operations.

“This training event has been the first time our district has been able to train together with our US partners, but we certainly hope it will not be the last,” Lt. j.g. Dennis Rapal, PCGNELZ chief of staff, said.

“This medical training will be a great benefit to the communities we serve, and we look forward to our continuing partnership,” he added.

The US Embassy said the training partnership exemplifies a close relationship with the US and Philippines in promoting a free and open Indo-Pacific region by strengthening maritime law enforcement and maritime search and rescue. — Richa Noriega/BAP, GMA News
