The Philippines on Monday received 272,610 additional shots of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, procured by the national government.
State media PTV reported that the shipment of the American-made jabs arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 this evening.
At the sidelines of the delivery, National Task Force against COVID-19 (NTF) Assistant Secretary Wilben Mayor said the vaccines were procured by the national government through Asian Development Bank.
Moreover, Mayor urged local government units to increase their vaccination numbers to achieve herd immunity.
Earlier on Monday, more than 900,000 Pfizer vaccine doses were also delivered, a donation of the US government and coursed through the global vaccine-sharing COVAX facility.
The Department of Health earlier said the inoculation of the general population is already underway, with some of the newly received Pfizer-BioNTech shots to be allocated to minors. — Consuelo Marquez/BM, GMA News
