Maring leaves 22 dead; 17 other reported fatalities being validated -NDRRMC

The death toll from Severe Tropical Storm Maring climbed to 22, with 17 more reported fatalities still being validated, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Saturday.

Based on its 8 a.m. report, the NDRRMC reported that 16 people were confirmed to be missing, while reports on one more missing person was still being validated.

The agency said a total of 611,705 persons were affected by the tropical storm. At least 15,130 residents were taking shelter inside evacuation centers.

Meanwhile, at least 12 roads and 13 bridges were not passable in Region 1, Region 2, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, CARAGA, and CAR.

The NDRRMC said a total of 137 cities and municipalities experienced power interruptions, while 117 had their power restored.

Eight cities and municipalities also experienced water supply outages, with water supply restored in 5 areas.

The agency also confirmed at least 1,146 passengers, 537 rolling cargoes, and two vessels were stranded, while nine ports were reported non-operational in CALABARZON, Region 8, and CARAGA.

It added that 7,399 damaged houses were also reported in Region 1, Region 2, Region 3, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Region 6, CARAGA, and CAR.

The NDRRMC noted that a total of P32,176,949 in assistance was provided to Region 1, Region 2, Region 3, MIMAROPA, and CAR. — DVM, GMA News
