The Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD) party was open to having Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte substitute as their standard-bearer in Eleksyon 2022, an official of the party said Monday.
According to Sandra Aguinaldo’s “24 Oras” report, Lakas-CMD’s Prospero Pichay admitted they only fielded placeholders for president and vice president during the filing of certificates of candidacy (COC) which ended on October 8.
Since substitutions were allowed until November 15, they were open to having Sara step in as their candidate for president.
“We respect the decision of mayor Sara running for mayor of Davao city. But you know we are not sure if that is final. Just in case she changes her mind, then we can offer our party,” said Pichay.
In the PDP-Laban faction led by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi, Senator Ronald dela Rosa had said he was also willing to withdraw his candidacy for president if Sara would run for the post under their party.
Sara, however, consistently said she was not seeking the presidency, adding that she had filed her COC for reelection in 2022. She was also not a member of PDP Laban. — DVM, GMA News
