The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Sunday said it will publish the final list of Eleksyon 2022 candidates by December as it expects to remove nuisance candidates from its current list.
In an interview over Dobol B TV, Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said they also expect to remove around 95% nuisance candidates.
“Ine-expect natin ang final list around December. ‘Yun ang final. Ang pagsasala magagaganap ngayon (We expect a final list this December. That’s the final list. We start our evaluation today),” said Jimenez.
“Napakarami. Again, sa pagka-Presidente mayroong 97. Madami kang sasalain. Sa VP, 28. Medyo maraming trabaho,” he added, when asked about the number of nuisance candidates.
(There are a lot. Again, for presidency, we have 97 aspirants, we will filter all that. For vice presidency, we have 28. There are a lot who will run.)
“Unang tingin pa lang alam mong makakatanggal ka ng mga 95% na magfile. Siguro matitira sa atin hindi lalampas ng sampu,” he further pointed out.
(At first glance, you may remove 95% who filed their candidacy. Maybe a few will remain.)
The filing of certificate of candidacy for national and local posts ended last October 8 but substitution for a candidate in a national or local post can be filed from the end of COC filing until November 15, 2021.
Meanwhile, Jimenez also said there will be no more extensions for the deadline of voter registration for next year’s polls.
The Comelec set the deadline for voter registration last September 30 but it was extended from October 11 to 30, 2021 to accommodate more voters amid the pandemic restrictions.
The poll body also added more registration hours on weekdays and Saturdays in the National Capital Region and other select areas. —KG, GMA News
