Friends, family remember Miriam Defensor Santiago on 5th death anniversary

Supporters and relatives of former Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago visited her grave at the Loyola Memorial Park in Marikina City to commemorate her fifth death anniversary, “24 Oras” reported on Wednesday.

Santiago died at the age of 71 in September 2016 after battling stage 4 lung cancer.

Her husband, Attorney Narciso Santiago, thanked all their friends and relatives who continued to remember the former senator’s public service.

Some supporters, he said, would even give fresh roses at the late legislator’s wake. COVID-19 safety protocols were also observed during the event.

“Laging hinahanap yung katotohanan ‘pag gagawa ng batas para makatulong sa bayan,” he said, describing the legacy of his wife.

Supporters also recalled the late senator’s filing of a pandemic bill in 2013, during the MERS-CoV outbreak, which could have been helpful in the current COVID-19 pandemic.

Santiago last ran for president in 2016 national elections, with former Senator Bongbong Marcos, late dictator Ferdinand Marcos’ son, as her running mate. -Consuelo Marquez/NB, GMA News
