Speaker Lord Allan Velasco endorsed the inclusion and allocation of funds in the 2022 national budget for the procurement of three brand new C-130J planes by the Philippine Air Force.
This came after Velasco met with PAF officials, led by its commanding general, Lieutenant General Allen Paredes, on Monday.
“We fully support PAF’s modernization and priority projects for next year, particularly its plan to upgrade its fleet by buying brand new and modern aircraft,” Velasco said in a press statement.
“I can only give my word that we in the House of Representatives will include in the 2022 budget the modernization of the PAF’s fleet and ensure the proper training of personnel in handling modern equipment”
The House of Representatives is holding plenary deliberations on the proposed P5.024-trillion national budget for the fiscal year 2022.
The House leader promised to include the purchase of more military aircraft in the 2022 national budget after a C-130 plane crashed in Sulu province in July, killing at least 53 individuals, most of whom were soldiers.
Following the crash, Velasco vowed to help the PAF replace the ill-fated C-130 plane and to support its efforts to upgrade and modernize its fleet. — DVM, GMA News
