Palace: No let-up in Duterte s tirades vs. critics who accuse corruption

President Rodrigo Duterte will continue to challenge people who make false accusations against his government, MalacaƱang said Thursday.

Duterte has been using his weekly national address on COVID-19 response to slam his critics, with his tirades currently focused on Senator Richard Gordon, chairman of the Senate panel looking into allegations of overpricing in the procurement of medical supplies at the onset of the pandemic last year.

“Habang mayroon pong mga hindi napapatunayang mga alegasyon, sasagot po tayo dahil kinakailangan ilabas ang katotohanan,” presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said at a press briefing when asked if the President would continue with his tirades in light of the upcoming 2022 elections.

(As long as there are allegations, which have yet to be proven, we will respond since the truth must come out.)

“Inuulit-ulit ng mga senador na mayroon daw anomalya, karapatan din naman ng Ehekutibo na ulit-ulitin … na wala pong overprice, walang anomalya.”

(The senators kept repeating the allegation that there were anomalies, thus it is also the right of the Executive department to reiterate that there was no overpricing and there were no anomalous transactions.)

Gordon recently called out Duterte for defending individuals linked to the allegedly overpriced medical supplies.

The senator also described the President as a “bully” and dared him to do his “worst.”

Duterte, meanwhile, accused Gordon of using the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), the humanitarian organization he heads, as his “milking cow.” The President then called for an audit of public funds received by the PRC.

He also ordered an investigation into the alleged “false positives” among the COVID-19 tests conducted by the PRC. —LDF, GMA News
