DOE reassures sufficient power supply in summer, Eleksyon 2022 –solon

The Department of Energy (DOE) reassured the public that power supply will be sufficient during the dry season which coincides within the May 9, 2022 elections period, a lawmaker said Thursday.

“The DOE reiterates its assurance that we will have sufficient power come summer time 2022,” Zamboanga City 2nd district Rep. Manuel Jose Dalipe, who sponsored the proposed 2022 budget of the agency during plenary deliberations.

The Energy department earlier said that based on the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) projected power reserves during the summer period next year shows it is “above the yellow line,” meaning there will be no yellow alert or power interruption.

“On top of the 1,800 megawatts projected reserve come May 2022, we are projecting to have an additional 300 megawatts from Malaya (power plant) and 150 megawatts from Ingrid (power plant). Also, Dinginin-II will come in the third quarter [next year] with 668 megawatts,” Dalipe said.

The lawmaker said that the Malaya power plant is projected to be available towards the end of the year.

“The good news is Ingrid is already undergoing testing so it will be online anytime soon,” he said.

“More or less, for this year, we will have an additional 450 megawatts,” he added.

For the scheduled maintenance shutdowns, the DOE has already required all power producers to submit their schedule by the end of September, according to the lawmaker.

Dalipe said that in case of forced outages, the projected capacity to be offline is about 1,100 megawatts, below the projected reserves of 1,800 megawatts.—LDF, GMA News
