Over 37.6K people affected by Typhoon Kiko –NDRRMC

A total of 37,660 individuals or 9,485 families were affected by Typhoon Kiko, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Wednesday.

In its report, the NDRRMC said the number of affected population was reported from 174 barangays in Ilocos, Cagayan, Central Luzon, and Cordillera.

At least 52 people or 15 families were staying inside five evacuation centers, while 63 displaced individuals or 17 families were taking shelter in the homes of their relatives and friends.

According to the NDRRMC, there persons were reported injured due to last week’s typhoon.

At least 323 houses were damaged—285 partially and 38 totally—in Cagayan, Central Luzon, and Cordillera.

Meanwhile, 10 roads are still impassable, while 10 roads and two bridges that were previously affected are now passable.

Also, power interruptions were experienced in seven cities and municipalities. However, electricity in three of the affected areas has been restored.

Water supply problems were encountered in one area.

Communication services were down in six cities and towns in Cagayan, but these have been restored in two affected areas.

On the other hand, around 200 passengers were stranded in Ilocos, Cagayan, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Soccsksargen, and Cordillera.

At least P18,259,993 in damage to agriculture was reported in Cagayan and Central Luzon.

Due to the threat of the typhoon, 29 classes and 29 work schedules were suspended.

State of calamity was declared in at least six cities and towns.

Around 444,012 worth of assistance has been provided to affected people so far, according to the NDRRMC.

State weather bureau PAGASA said Kiko exited the  Philippine Area of Responsibility on Sunday. —LBG, GMA News
