Health workers will not abandon patients during protest

Health workers will not abandon their patients when they stage a mass protest action on Wednesday, the first day of September.

According to Lei Alviz’s “Saksi” report, medical workers will launch a protest action in front of the Department of Health (DOH) office in Manila after their special risk allowance and other benefits were allegedly not distributed.

But health workers assured that they will conduct the protests during their break time and will not leave their patients unattended.

In addition, medical workers who will not join the protest activity will be wearing arm bands to show their support.

Earlier, health workers from Fabella Hospital and Research Institute for Tropical Medicine already conducted their own protest activities to demand for the release of their benefits.

The DOH vowed to release P311.79 million worth of SRAs to health workers on Aug. 31, Tuesday.

Health frontline workers in St. Luke’s Medical Center in Quezon City are still waiting for their SRAs. However, only a few medical workers will receive it.

DOH had said only medical workers who have direct contact with COVID-19 patients will receive their SRA under Bayanihan 2 law, which expired in June 2021.

The country’s health department had appealed to health workers to cancel their planned protests for fear that the health system would be at risk. — Consuelo Marquez/BAP, GMA News
