Bato dela Rosa designated as Senate Finance vice-chair after Lacson resignation

Senator Ronald dela Rosa was designated as one of the Senate Finance Committee’s vice-chairmen after Senator Panfilo Lacson vacated the post.

This was announced by committee chairman Sonny Angara during the Senate’s plenary session Tuesday.

“May I just inform the body of the designation of one of our colleagues as the vice-chairperson of the finance committee since we are about to begin our committee hearings and as you know Senator Ping Lacson has resigned from this post as vice-chairperson,” Angara said.

“We are lucky because one of the members of the committee expressed willingness to fill admittedly the big shoes left by Senator Lacson this is no less than… Senator Bato dela Rosa and he will head sub-committee C with the exception of the [Presidential Legislative Liaison Office] which will be defended by Senator Joel Villanueva,” he added.

Last week, Lacson announced that he will be resigning as Senate Finance Committee vice-chair to focus on scrutinizing the 2022 national budget. He was particularly interested in the Commission on Audit’s report which flagged several agencies’ use of funds.

His post, vice-chairperson of Senate finance panel, sponsors the annual budgets of the following:

  • Department of Information and Communications Technology and its attached agencies
  • Department of National Defense and its attached agencies
  • Commission on Human Rights
  • Dangerous Drugs Board
  • Mindanao Development Authority
  • Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process
  • Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency
  • Presidential Legislative Liaison Office
  • Southern Philippines Development Authority
