The Philippines on Thursday received 3 million more doses of the Sinovac vaccine against COVID-19.
According to the National Task Force Against COVID-19, the Philippine Airlines Flight carrying the doses landed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2 at around 5:55 p.m.
Vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. and government adviser Dr. Ted Herbosa welcomed the government-procured vaccines.
“[Sa] lahat ng procurement natin ito ‘yung pinakamalaking delivery and we are so happy that we are accommodated by the Sinovac na talagang mabigyan tayo ng 3 million kasi kailangang-kailangan natin talaga sa mga probinsya,” Galvez said.
[In all our procurements, this is the biggest delivery and we are so happy that we were accommodated by the Sinovac because our provinces badly need it.]
Galvez said the vaccines would be distributed to all regions across the country.
?“Actually, pinagusapan na namin almost equitable ang distribution based doon sa day to last nila… ibig sabihin mayroon silang ongoing vaccination at naka program na kung ilang araw ang nalalabi sa mga vaccine nila,” Galvez said.
[We talked about an equitable distribution based on their day to last… this means that they have an ongoing vaccination and it is programmed how long their vaccines will last.]
“Ito ginagawa natin ‘yan para ma-maximize ang vaccination, para walang ma-tengga doon sa mga mahihina na mag vaccinate,” he added.
[We do this to maximize our vaccination, so no vaccination will pile up on those with low vaccination rates.]
Galvez said the Philippines is expecting to receive all 26 million government-procured Sinovac vaccines on Friday.
Similarly, 582,000 AstraZeneca vaccines procured by the private sector and Sinopharm vaccines donated by China are expected to arrive on Friday evening.
The NTF Against COVID-19, a total of 45, 940, 390 doses from different vaccine brands have been delivered to the country.
Galvez on Wednesday said the government could focus on purchasing COVID-19 vaccine doses from Pfizer and Moderna once the delivery of their supply stabilizes.
The Philippines has logged a total of 1,791,003 cases, of which 1,648,402 have recovered, and 30,881 have died. —NB, GMA News
