Lacson wants clarification on COVID-19 self-quarantine protocols

Senator Panfilo Lacson on Monday is asking for clarification on self-quarantine protocols for close contacts of COVID-19 patients.

On Twitter, Lacson was puzzled over the advice of a medical staff that he must finish his 14-day quarantine despite testing negative for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.

“Somebody please clarify existing health protocols. I tested NEGATIVE for Covid this afternoon after getting exposed in a staff meeting last Tuesday,” Lacson wrote.

“I don’t understand why our Senate medical team says I still have to continue my self-quarantine for 8 more days,” he added.

As of May 2021, Department of Health‘s frequently asked questions cited that a close contact must still finish their quarantine even as testing negative for the virus.

“Yes. You need to finish your 14-day quarantine and finish it without developing any symptoms,” DOH said.

As of Monday, COVID-19 cases in the Philippines reached 1,857,646 with 130,350 active cases, death toll at 31,961 and 1,695,335 recoveries. — BAP, GMA News
