DOH reports 16,044 new COVID-19 cases; active cases at 125,900

The Department of Health reported 16,044 new COVID-19 infections on Sunday, raising the country’s total case count to 1,839,635.

This is the third straight day where more than 16,000 cases were reported.

According to the DOH, the new cases brought the country’s active cases to 125,900, of which 93.8% are mild, 3.4% are asymptomatic, 1.2% are severe, and 0.6% are in critical condition.

The total recovery count increased to 1,681,925 after 13,952 more patients defeated the viral disease.

The death toll rose to 31,810 with 215 new fatalities.

The DOH said 460 duplicates were removed from the total case count, while 120 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

The DOH added that all laboratories were operational on August 20, while six laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.

Further, data from the DOH also showed that 73% of the country’s intensive care unit beds are utilized, while 51% of the mechanical ventilators are also in use.

In Metro Manila, 71% of the ICU beds are in use, while 56% of the ventilators are utilized. — DVM, GMA News
