The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has recorded 90 new COVID-19 cases among its personnel, spokesperson Colonel Ramon Zagala said on Monday.

Zagala told GMA News Online that the total number of infections in AFP is now at 15,702.

He said 13,733 have already recovered from the disease, while 1,502 are still active cases. He added that there are 436 “reinfections.”  There are 31 recorded deaths.

On Monday, AFP chief Lieutenant General Jose Faustino Jr. tested positive for the virus.

Faustino, who has been fully vaccinated, said he is “in high spirits to continue performing my job, albeit in quarantine.”

“I will remain in command of the AFP but will continue to follow the prescribed isolation protocol to ensure the safety of those I work with and my family,” he said.

According to Zagala, all of those who had contacts with Faustino have already undergone an antigen test and awaiting results.—LDF, GMA News
