Budget Secretary Wendel Avisado has resigned due to health reasons, Malacañang announced on Friday.
Palace spokesperson Harry Roque said President Rodrigo Duterte has accepted Avisado’s resignation. Undersecretary Tina Rose Marie Canda has been designated officer-in-charge of the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).
Avisado had been on medical leave following a bout with COVID-19 prior to his resignation.
In a statement on July 31, the DBM said Avisado was hospitalized for eight days and quarantined for over a month due to the coronavirus.
The agency also noted that it has been 14 years since Avisado underwent a quadruple open heart bypass.
Avisado, a former Davao City administrator during Duterte’s stint as mayor, joined the Cabinet in August 2019. —KBK, GMA News
